During my recent bout with the flu, I caught this segment about energy drinks on Ellen. (See video at the bottom of the page.)
Besides her blatant plug for Vitaminwater for which she is a spokesperson, she?s right. Plain water is the best energy drink since dehydration can make you tired. Research has shown again and again that our performance?mental and physical?suffers when we haven?t drank enough. And here?s the thing: we are drinking. We?re drinking energy drinks. Since they first launched in to the market place, they are the fastest growing segment of the beverage industry and comprise 62 percent of the functional beverage market, which includes sports drinks, according to a 2010 Comprehensive Reviews in Food Science and Food Safety study.
