You're not crazy to think your blood pressure spikes whenever you visit your doctor. This doctor-induced rise in your blood pressure reading is known as "white-coat" hypertension.
Just using a single, spiked reading isn't enough to evaluate how well patients are doing on their blood pressure-lowering medication, and could endanger them, finds a new study by researchers at Duke University Medical Center, who recommend the use of blood pressure home monitoring devices for patients to take periodic readings to use in their treatment.
